Workshop to strengthen the quality infrastructure of the photovoltaic sector in Morocco

the quality challenges of the photovoltaic value chain and its necessary solutions

In the context of Moroccan-German cooperation, a project to strengthen the quality infrastructure for photovoltaic energy in Morocco has been developed by the German Metrology Institute (PTB) in conjunction with the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development (MTEDD) and the Ministry of Industry, Trade, Green and Digital Economy. SOLAREXPORT MOROCCO, concerned about its quality approach and determined to provide a product and services beyond reproach in the photovoltaic sector, actively participated in this 3-day workshop.

One of the axes of this project is to identify the needs of the photovoltaic sector for quality assurance services.

In order to conduct the identification of needs in a participatory manner with the stakeholders in the photovoltaic sector value chain and the quality infrastructure, a needs identification workshop was recently held at the Mohammed VI International Conference Centre in Skhirat.

This workshop was an opportunity for exchange and construction between the stakeholders of the value chain of the photovoltaic sector and the decision makers and relevant institutions in this sector, and Ms. Saïda BOUDOUNIT, office and sourcing manager at SOLAREXPORT MAROC, took part in this meeting.

What is the PTB (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt)?

The PTB (literally “Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt”) is the national metrology agency of the Federal Republic of Germany. It is both a higher federal authority working in the technical-scientific field and a research centre of the federal administration.

The PTB has the following tasks:

  • To carry out its own research and development work in the field of metrology, including the determination of fundamental and natural constants.
  • To carry out conformity assessments in accordance with national and European law, e.g. of measuring instruments, medical products.
  • To provide technical-scientific services and to improve metrology in order to meet the protection objectives of the government (consumer, health, environmental and labour protection) and for industry.
  • Transfer of knowledge and technology to the economic sector.
  • To participate in national and international metrology, legal metrology and standardisation committees and organisations.
  • To advise the federal government and economic actors.
  • To apply a quality control system in accordance with the international standard.
  • To ensure the international recognition of calibration certificates and conformity assessments.

Going further: what is “CALIDENA”?

CALIDENA is an artificial word made up of two Spanish words “chain/’cadena'” and “quality/calidad”, meaning the quality of the value chain.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development.

The PTB initiated and developed the CALIDENA project to improve quality in the renewable energy sector, specifically photovoltaics, over a period of 3 years. For more information, please visit the CALIDENA website.
